Things change fast at a new site like Ridgewood Patch. Up until now, we’ve primarily been a news operation, written by our staff and freelancers. But we’re hoping to add a new voice to the site: Yours.

Ridgewood Patch has launched a new platform for bloggers. Intrigued? Here are some of the details:

What are we looking for? We don’t have a lot of hard requirements outside of this: It’s got to be interesting and relevant to Ridgewood residents. Maybe you’re talking about our local politics. Maybe you’re spreading news about community projects. Maybe you’re the local authority on a certain topic, with the credentials to back it up. Do you have a perspective on how the community’s changed over the years? Want a place to showcase your cool photos from around town? Need a de-facto online newsletter for your community group? Got favorite recipes to share, or books to recommend? All of those sound like contenders to us.

What do you need to do? Write as often (or not so often) as you like. Don’t worry; we won’t change your voice in your blog posts. The entries will be reviewed for quality and edited for spelling, grammar and style. But remember, opinions are awesome, particularly well-thought-out ones, backed up with facts, however, the blog isn’t a place for personal insults, unfounded claims and defamation.

What’s in it for you? Sorry, you might get fame, but not fortune, from your Patch blog. So here’s the deal: We get the privilege of hosting your valuable views. You get to put them on a site that’s increasingly serving as a community hub, where more and more people will have the opportunity to discover your entries all the time. The Entire $1.65B Acquisition Of YouTube Took A Week, Was Negotiated At Denny’s  — In an interview at TechCrunch Disrupt Beijing today, YouTube co-founder Steven Chen reminisced about selling his company to Google.  “Was there any way you could not have sold?”  Sarah Lacy asked?

ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting that Ridgewood HS grad Kim Ng could be the first woman to break the glass ceiling in baseball.

According to Olney, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will be interviewing Ng, 42, for the General Manager’s position after the departure of Tony Reagins a few weeks ago.

Ng currently serves as MLB’s vice president for baseball operations and has previously been the Assistant GM of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees, where she was part of the brain trust that brought multiple titles to New York in the last great Yankee dynasty.

Angels owner Arte Moreno told The OC Register, ”I think you want a good baseball man – or I should say baseball person because there are some qualified women out there – because you want to be able to evaluate talent.”

The daughter of a financial analyst and a banker, the 1986 RHS grad was a high school softball star. She was inducted as a Distinguished Alumni in 2008. After obtaining a public policy degree from the University of Chicago, Ng moved up the ladder and broke into baseball as an intern with the Chicago White Sox in 1991.

She has twice previously been considered for General Manager jobs, in San Diego and Seattle, only to be turned down.

Still, Ng is regarded by baseball insiders as the most likely to break the gender barrier due to her rare understanding of finances and player values, along with a strong reputation as a hard-worker.

When Ng will have her interview is not yet clear, Olney reported.
